Gentaro Shizuka (静 弦太郎しずか げんたろう, Shizuka Gentarō) is the main character of Iron King. He has a set age of 23[1][2].

Character Biography[]

A talented agent known as the "emissary" of the National Security Organization, his trademark is a black ten-gallon hat and Western-style clothing. Even against giant robots, Gentaro faces them without hesitation, and has the ability to defeat monsters and giant robots with his outstanding athletic ability.

Usually a cheerful and friendly young man who is vulnerable to beautiful women, but for the mission of "destroying an organization plotting the overthrow of Japan", he understands that sometimes he has to sacrifice the little in order to save the big. Then, even though he is conflicted, Gentaro acts bluntly and does not hesitate to make ruthless judgments. In addition to taking advantage of and discarding those around him, Gentaro dislikes irrational behaviour such as giving priority to personal feelings in emergencies, ignoring reality. For this reason, his character tend to be misunderstood as human beings without blood or tears, but he often fought without regard for his own life.

He was given information about the Iron King, but he never imagined that it was actually his partner Goro Kirishima until the final episode. Throughout the story, there were frequent scenes of singing while playing the guitar, and there were many variations such as nursery rhymes and popular songs.

Gentaro Shizuka was portrayed by Shoji Ishibashi (石橋 正次, Ishibashi Shōji).

Trivia[]

  • In the setting, Gentaro was an orphan abandoned in front of the Tsushima Laboratory, and according to the letter, his father's name was Gennosuke, and his mother's name was Koeda.[3]
  • The poncho-like costume worn by Gentaro in the play was given by Ishibashi's mother, and when Ishibashi did not take off even during the shooting, it was adopted as a costume.[4]
  • Shoji Ishibashi, who portrayed Gentaro Shizuka, was a popular singer, and the songs played throughout the series were selected by Ishibashi, except for the first episode[5]. Ishibashi himself doubted the necessity of this scene[4].
