Notes[]
- This version is the first live-action adaptation staring the character Golden Bat. Golden Bat is considered to be Japan's first superhero or the first superhero worldwide, created in 1930 by Ichiro Suzuki and Takeo Nagamatsu. He first appeared in Kamishibai stories and survived the meduim's decline by transitioning to anime and manga. His debut in 1930 makes him an earlier example of a modern superhero, appearing eight years before Superman made his debut in Action Comics #1.
- In addition, this could be Japan's first superhero movie.[1]
- In 1966, Toei made another live-action Golden Bat film after this one, though the latter doesn't apparently share continuity with this film.
- Although, Dr. Nazo seemingly appeared in this work in some form, judging the synposis, it's unknown what he looked like in this product as nothing of him have been found. But stills of figures what are presumed to be Dr. Nazo's QX-Gang are dressed in dark suits with bat-like ears protruding from their masks, likely to resemble their boss Dr. Nazo himself.
- Photos of this film that were supposedly taken during its shooting quietly have been quietly sold at an auction, and the buyer never revealed the covered ones.
- Golden Bat's appearance is based off his Musketeer styled design from the original manga comic adaptions by Meimei-sha.
- In addition, Masaru and Kazuko from the said manga also make an appearance in this film, however, the difference is that they are brother and sister in this version. Detective Chief Oki does not appear in the film, but his last name is used for Dr. Ogata's assistant.
- It's been stated that Golden Bat doesn't fly in this film but instead chases villains on a motorcycle. This is because the film was produced at a time when Japan was still under the control of GHQ, which was just after the war, and Japan was poor, so it isn't thought that the movie companies at the time had much leeway to use special effects. In addition, it's considered that Shin Eigasha didn't have the money as an independent film company and technology to use special effects to recreate the flying Golden Bat, so they instead settled on a bike-riding version to fill in the void.[2]
