Kirigirisu Gray (キリギリスグレイ, Kirigirisu Gurei, lit. "Bush Cricket Gray") is a bush cricket-type DARK Robot that appears in Android Kikaider.
Biography[]
The appearance is a simple design resembling a giant-sized humanoid version of a cricket. Its chirping sound is like that of a cricket, saying "chon'giisu" (チョンギース, Chongīsu). Using its abdominal speaker, it can amplify all sounds by 3000 times and create the insane sound wave Kirigirisu Mad Cycle (キリギリスマッドサイクル, Kirigirisu Maddo Saikuru). Not only does it drive humans mad literally, but in the story, it also shattered doors into pieces like glass. The feathers on its back can be fired as Finishing Feather (必殺フェザー, Hissatsu Fezā) but in the story, they were caught and even thrown back at it by Kikaider, twice, causing damage.
In the story, it transmitted the Kirigirisu Mad Cycle through radio waves and broadcast it on TV, executing the Citizen Madness Plan (市民キチガイ計画, Shimin Kichigai Keikaku) to drive people all over Japan insane. However, the antenna crucial for this plan was drawn by a sketch-loving boy named Yoichi Mikasa, which led to the robot targeting both the drawing and the boy's life. In the battle against Kikaider, the sound of Professor Gill's Devil's Flute is amplified 3000 times by the speaker in the abdomen. Despite Kikaider's electronic brain being resistant, the attack manages to inflict damage, momentarily turning Kikaider into a puppet under DARK's control, achieving temporary success.
In its pursuit of battling Kikaider, Hakaider, who had begun to ignore even Gill's commands, and the brainwashed Kikaider are set up to fight. However, by sheer chance, it end up positioned on the tracks of a cart, and as a result of a collision orchestrated by Mitsuko Komyoji, the cart is pushed into it, causing its speaker to malfunction and stop. Kikaider regained his sanity, and Hakaider, who needed a blood transfusion, retreated, leading to a renewed battle with Kikaider. At one point, it gained the upper hand by strangling Kikaider with its scissor-like hands, but it was eventually destroyed by Ginga Hurricane.
