Nazō (ナゾー) is the main antagonist of the 1966 film adaption of the kamishibai story of the same name, Golden Bat.

Listen up, You! I'm Nazo, ruler of the universe. It was i who set planet icarus off course. Humans have no place in my universe! The universe exists for me and my people alone! Therefore i will destroy Earth! When Icarus collides with your world, it'll wipe out the human race! Look forward to your demise! (laughs evilly)

–Dr. Nazo

History[]

Nazo and his gang set of planet Icarus to collide with and destroy Earth and when invading the planet, he sends his army to kill Dr. Yamatone and his crew while searching for the Lens in the city of Atlantis to complete Professor Pearl's invention to destroy Icarus and save Earth. When the agency finds in the tomb a coffin carrying a muscular golden man with a skeletal head named Golden Bat, they revive him with a drop of water and the skeleton joins them on their mission to save Earth and stop Nazo and his gang's evil plans to conquer the universe.

Physical Appearance[]

Nazo is an alien creature wearing a darkish gray suit with bat like ears on the head completely covering his body save for his eyes and hands. He also has a black hand with three fingers while his other hand is missing and has a crushing mechanical claw in it's place. In place of his seemingly missing legs, he has a white rotating robotic waist with a dashboard controlling his own tower.

He has a total of four eyes: red, blue, green and a yellow.

Personality[]

Nazo is violent, dangerous, angry, despicable, rude, impatient, arrogant, unsympathetic, strict, demanding and selfish monster who despises living beings, especially humans. He is also very short-tempered and does not tolerate any failure and threatens to kill his soldiers if they do so.

Legecy[]

Nazo is believed by some to be Japan's first supervillain ever since his debut as "Black Bat".[1] Nazo is thus known for being an inspiration of countless other villains ever since.

Black Bat (the former identity of Nazo) was also the franchise's original villainous protagonist until he was replaced by Golden Bat due to him being more popular and became the main antagonist of the franchise ever since.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike the vintage versions of Nazo, this incarnation of the character is copyrighted.
  • Unlike some versions of the character where he is a Nazi remnant such as in the kamishibai and anime versions, this version of Nazo is an alien.
  • Nazo's design in this movie would a year later be transferred to his counterpart seen in the anime adaptation despite being given notable differences.
  • Despite Nazo apparently missing his legs, a small polyester doll based off his design from this film depicts him with legs.
  • This marks the second live-action version of Nazo, the first being in Golden Bat: The Phantom of the Skyscraper.
  • This design of Nazo was used in the 1990 Golden Bat manga based off the anime with a difference being that he has his usual sharp cat-like pupils which aren't present in the film version.
