Saber + Zenkaiger: Superhero Senki (セイバー+ゼンカイジャー:スーパーヒーロー戦記, Seibā + Zenkaijā: Supāhīrō Senki, lit. Superhero War Chronicle)[1][2][3] is a Japanese superhero crossover film between Kamen Rider SaberIcon-crosswiki.png and Kikai Sentai ZenkaigerIcon-crosswiki.png, serving to commemorate both the Kamen Rider 50th AnniversaryIcon-crosswiki.png and Super Sentai 45th AnniversaryIcon-crosswiki.png. In the film, several veteran heroes across both franchises join forces alongside the Saber RidersIcon-crosswiki.png and the ZenkaigersIcon-crosswiki.png to fight against AsmodeusIcon-crosswiki.png. The film was also accompanied by an "special"Icon-crosswiki.png short film of Kamen Rider ReviceIcon-crosswiki.png, which featured early-bird appearances of both protagonists Kamen Riders ReviIcon-crosswiki.png and ViceIcon-crosswiki.png, ahead of their in-series debuts.

The catchphrase for this film is "Straightforward heroes, half of the century!" (ヒーロー一筋、半世紀!, Hīrō hitosuji, han-seiki!)

Synopsis[]

"I will decide; at full speed, non stop; this story's ending! (物語の結末は、全力全開で、俺が決める!, Monogatari no ketsumatsu wa, zenryoku zenkai de, ore ga kimeru!)"
―Kamen Rider Saber and Zenkaizer's combined catchphrase

Touma, Yuri and Mei somehow ended up in the World of Zenkaiger while four Zenkaigers, except Juran, ended up in the World of Saber. The reason for their swap is due to a man who wishes to rid the world of heroes. How does a male, teenage artist tie into this? And why are they send into different stories with previous Kamen Riders and Super Sentai Teams?

Continuity and Placement[]

  • The film takes place after the events of the Movie Release Commemorative Combo Special.
    • Kamen Rider SaberIcon-crosswiki.png: The film takes place after the events of the Special ChapterIcon-crosswiki.png, which in turn takes place between Episode 39Icon-crosswiki.png and 40Icon-crosswiki.png in the account of the following factors:
      • Takes place after Kamen Rider Xross Saber's debut in Episode 38Icon-crosswiki.png.
      • Takes place after the Shindai siblings siding with the Northern Base swordsmen in Episode 39Icon-crosswiki.png.
        • Despite Master Logos not making an appearance in the film outside flashbacks, he was shown recovering from his injuries from his battle against Crimson Saber.
      • Takes place before Episode 40Icon-crosswiki.png due to Rintaro and Kento allegedly recovering from their final battle with Solomon in Episode 41Icon-crosswiki.png. Episodes 41 through 47Icon-crosswiki.png remains interlocked due to the ongoing storyline with Storious.
      • Takes place before Episode 43Icon-crosswiki.png as Touma does not recognize adult Luna in the movie and Ren Akamichi is not seen with Desast's scarf.
        • Although Ren Akamichi had not welcomed himself with the rest of the swordsmen Kamen Riders at this point, he was shown to be open to cooperate with them on certain crisises like Episode 38.
    • Kikai Sentai ZenkaigerIcon-crosswiki.png: The film takes place after Episode 20Icon-crosswiki.png, which featured the appearances of Kamen Rider Sabela and Durendal, and Asmodeus' awakening.
  • Kamen Rider ReviceIcon-crosswiki.png: It has been stated that the film takes place after the third episode.

Superhero Senki Wonder Ride Book (スーパーヒーロー戦記ワンダーライドブック, Sūpā hīrō Senki Wandā Raido Bukku, lit. Super Hero War Chronicle) is used by Kamen Rider SaberIcon-crosswiki.png in the Seiken Swordriver to access his Super Sentai crossover form, Superhero Senki.

Errors[]

  • The sound effect when Kamen Rider Grand Zi-O summons Kabuto is cut off suddenly at the end when Kabuto is materialized.
  • A cameraman shown up for seconds when the scene cut to the overview of Buster, Black, GekiRed, Red Mask, and RyuuRanger battle.
  • The sound effects for the Geartlinger's finisher are incorrectly timed when Zenkaiser readies his finisher against Asmodeus.

Real-world References[]

About Shotaro Ishinomori[]

  • This is not the first time Shotaro interacts with his creations, the first attempt was in the 2011 novel PlaybackIcon-crosswiki.png.
  • Shotaro's older sister Yoshie OnoderaIcon-crosswiki.png had an important role in his early life, this was adapted into his relationship with Mei SudoIcon-crosswiki.png in this film.
  • A biography book of Shotaro appears in this movie.
  • Young Shotaro was indeed in favor of giving a "bad ending" or a tragical fate to his superhero genre character, this was adapted into part of Asmodeus' plan.

Journey to the West[]

  • The real-world Journey to the West is a 16th century Chinese fictional novel. The book itself has influenced the Sanzo EyeconIcon-crosswiki.png and Saiyuu JourneyIcon-crosswiki.png in Kamen Rider franchise.
  • Momotaros as Sun Wukong the Monkey King: Although Momotaros is a Japanese Demon, however, in the original text Monkey King has a group of demon friends.
  • Kintaros as Zhu Bajie: Both Zhu Bajie in the original text and Kintaros are lazy.
  • Urataros as Sha Wujing: Although in the original text Sha Wujing is a blue-skin demon. Japanese localization ususally traited him as a Kappa - creature with tortoise shell.
  • Ryutaros as Tang Sanzang: Tang Sanzang uses mantra to shrink Sun Wukong's ring in order to control him, a retelling of Ryutaros' trouble-maker attitude on Momotaros. Tang Sanzang's horse is also a dragon.
  • Oma Zi-O was representing the Buddha. However, his representing is more close to the gag-playing one in Yūsha Yoshihiko series.
  • Den-Liner was representing Sun Wukong's sumersault cloud. Unlike the original, it is able to carry all the travel group members.
  • The four Imagin arrived at Sentai Megid's "fake destination" : Another reference to the book, the Tang Sanzang group had also once arrived at the "fake India" controlled by the antagonist Yellow Brows.

Hakkenden[]

  • The real-world Hakkenden is a 19th century Japanese fictional novel. The book itself has influenced the background setting of Kamen Rider SaberIcon-crosswiki.png.
  • The eight legendary swordsmen all have unique birthmarks in the original text, correspond to the Super Hero Time block partner's storybook with some of the swordsmen.
    • Ryu Commander carries the Ryuki book is a nod to their dragon motif.
    • Juran carries J is referring Kamen Rider J and TyrannoRanger sharing the same actor.
  • There is a chapter about how eight swordsmen learned working together and defeat the demon, correspond to the legendary heroes' team up and battle against Rider World and his monsters.
  • The Eight Dog members selections are based on:
    • Doggie Kruger's canis motif and his name fits perfectly in this adaptation.
    • Shinken Green is Samurai-themed.
    • Shiguru Oshikiri is a Jidaigeki actor in his series.
    • Kyuranger's Kyutama are sphere-like items, correspond to the swordsmen's buddist prayer beads in the book.
