Xtreme Vanguard (超限斗神巴特迩, Chāoxiàn Dòushén Bātèěr, "Overlimit Battle God Baatar"), also known as Overlimit in marketing, is a 2025 tokusatsu series produced by Chinese company Animester.
Plot[]
In the future world, the negative energy aggregation entity, Phantom Evil, is rampantly threatening human civilization. Ancient culture expert Sun Ming Wu is summoned to the future and creates the Phantom God Connector to battle Phantom Evil, but still fails to turn the tide. At the last moment, he sends AI Xiao Hai Na back to the past to give the connector to his son, Sun Wan Ning, to stop Phantom Evil's conspiracy. Sun Wan Ning, entrusted with a critical mission in a time of crisis, teams up with the mischievous Xiao Hai Na and the composed and wise Jiang Ling Chuan to save the world and reverse the future.
Production[]
After the failure of the unproduced Apocalypse Vanguard, producer Cai Yunjun was obsessed and depressed and once decided to leave the toku industry and registered his new company Animester for making licensed toys of the comic book characters such as Marvel Comics & DC. However, in mid 2023, after seeing the successful production of Hyperspace Guardians, Cai had decided to recruit the crews and start all over again to make his own Tokusatsu series.
In December 2023, the show began all pre-productions. The initial choice of the action director was actually the legendary veteran Seiji Takaiwa, however, Takaiwa was unable to take the offer due to his schedule issue. In replacement, the manager of Takaiwa introduced Cai's team to another legendary Tokusatsu director, Kouichi Sakamoto, and evantually established their co-operation in 2024.
The filming was started at autumn 2024 in Guangdong Province, China, with some crew (even Sakamoto himself) and filming sets was spotted by passengers and misunderstood that it's a new season of another Tokusatsu franchise. After all, the Animester finally decided to break out the silence and make an announcement in January 2025.
